Hijiri Kogen sits at over 1,000m elevation in Omi Village, southwest of Nagano city, with north-facing slopes that catch decent snow through winter. The mountain is genuinely small—one chairlift, three runs, all under 300m—so a lap takes minutes. The terrain mix leans beginner-friendly, though one run is sometimes left ungroomed, which can add character on powder days if you're into that sort of thing.<br><br>The vibe here is decidedly local and quiet. There's no night skiing, no park, minimal facilities. A 50m sledging course serves families with kids. Lift tickets are cheap, and the area usually opens in late December, though snowfall variability means some seasons it doesn't get going until mid-January.
