How it rides
Kiroro has serious draw for powder days and is becoming a new favorite for storm chasers and powder hounds. The resort pulls down enormous amounts of snow early and throughout the season, has excellent tree riding in designated off-piste areas, and lift-accessed sidecountry that can deliver neck-deep powder on big days. The terrain spreads across two peaks with a mix of mellow groomers and steeper lines, though most on-piste riding suits beginners and intermediates. Advanced riders hunting steep terrain will find limited options on-piste but plenty of reward in the trees and backcountry.

The lift infrastructure is modern and well-maintained—fast gondolas, hooded quads, and efficient access—but wind closures have become more frequent in recent years, so be ready to adjust your game plan. The base area is resort-centric with Club Med properties and limited village atmosphere; if nightlife matters, you'll want to stay in nearby Otaru or Sapporo. Flat run-outs in the Asari area and the Gateway course can be frustrating for snowboarders, especially early season when snow cover is thin.

Kiroro sits just an hour from Niseko and is accessible from Sapporo or Otaru, making it a solid day trip or multi-day destination. Fresh tracks are getting poached quicker now that the mountain is on the radar, but a powder reset is never far away in this part of Hokkaido.
