Shirataka Choei is a modest, town-operated ski area in central Yamagata Prefecture, about 20–25 km west of Yamagata City. With one pair lift serving two runs and 107 m of vertical, it's a small hill built for local access rather than destination riding. The terrain splits fairly evenly between beginner and advanced slopes, with the steepest pitch hitting 25°.<br><br>The mountain operates daytime sessions from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, plus night skiing from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm, making it convenient for evening sessions after work. The west-facing aspect and modest elevation mean snow quality and consistency can be variable, especially later in the season. This is a no-frills local hill where you'll find quiet runs and minimal crowds—useful for a quick session or learning, but not a destination for serious powder or varied terrain.
